SACMATH

Elementary School Contest

On Saturday, December 8, 2018, SACMATH in conjunction with MathLeague.Org and Oak Ridge HS will hold an Elementary School Math Contest for students in grades 3 through 6. Students younger than the given grade levels are also welcome to attend.

(6th graders can attend the ES contest because many elementary schools nationwide have 6th grade)

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students from the same school MAY NOT attend two tests in the same Mathleague.Org Qualifying Round. Check the MathLeague.Org ES Events Calendar to check contest dates.

The contest will be at Oak Ridge HS, 1120 Harvard Way, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762.

Format

The Elementary School Contest will consist of the following events:

  • Number Sense Test (all students; 10 minutes for 80 questions, solved mentally)
  • Target Test (all students; 8 questions, given 2 at a time with 6 minutes per pair)
  • Sprint Test (all students; 40 minutes for 30 multiple-choice questions)
  • Team Test (Team; 20 minutes for 10 questions, solved as a team)

All students take the Number Sense, Sprint, and Target Tests. Teams consisting of one to four students from the same school take the Team Test. (Full descriptions of the tests can be found on the Test Details page).

Number Sense, Target, Sprint, and Team are the standard MathLeague.Org tests. These tests are used to calculate the Individual Math and Sweepstakes scores (see "Awards" below). Scoring high enough on these tests qualifies a student for the MathLeague.Org ES State Championships (see below).

Schedule

Check-In opens at 8:00 AM.

Tests run from 8:30 AM to 11:15 AM.

There will be a break from 11:15 AM to 12:00 PM while grading is completed and results are tabulated.

Results and Awards should start around 12:00 PM and be done by 12:30 PM.

Awards

Awards will be given to the highest scoring students by grade level in Individual Math (weighted sum of the scores on the Number Sense, Sprint and Target tests).

Team awards will be given to the highest scoring schools in Sweepstakes. The Sweepstakes score is calculated as: (Sum of 4 highest Individual math scores)/4 plus highest Team Test score. All members of the Team must be from the same school.

This contest is a qualifier for the MathLeague.Org Elementary School State Championships, scheduled for May 2019. Students and teams who score high enough at this contest in certain events qualify for the Championships. Check the MATHLEAGUE.ORG website for details. (NOTE: In order to qualify using Team criteria, all students on the Team must be from the same school).
